Foreword:
Greetings! As China Christian Daily enters a new stage this year, we hope this monthly newsletter will continue to serve as a window into the life, history, and global connections of the church in China.
This month, we remember the life and legacy of Joseph Tong, a pioneering theologian and educator whose influence has deeply shaped theological education for the Chinese church worldwide. Born in Fujian Province in 1941 and later migrating to Indonesia with the family, Rev. Tong was one of the four brothers among the "Five Tong Brothers" who devoted themselves to ministry. He authored the books Foundations of the Christian Faith and Theological Reflection and Reconstruction of Faith, which have become essential reference books for many local pastors.
Other articles highlight voices from Christian academia on leadership and global trends. From Europe, Isabelle Hamley reflects on leadership and formation at Ridley Hall, calling for resilient leaders. Gina Zurlo notes that while women make up most Christians globally, they remain underrepresented in leadership. Ross outlines key shifts, including the rise of the Global South.
An upcoming highlight: Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary will host its second East Asian Christianity Conference from April 9 to 11, 2026, fostering dialogue on issues facing the regional church.
