Foreword:
Greetings! We are China Christian Daily, the first comprehensive English Christian news website about the church in China. Thank you for your sincere love, prayers, and contributions to the Chinese church.
This December, Christmas once again becomes a moment when faith, culture, and public life intersect in visible and meaningful ways across China. While Christmas is not a public holiday, churches throughout the country marked the season with worship services, choirs, performances, and community outreach—often drawing the largest congregations of the year. From Beijing to Shanghai, Ningbo to Inner Mongolia, congregations gathered in multiple Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services, responding to the spiritual hunger of both believers and seekers.
In the days leading up to Christmas, many churches held joint worship services and creative celebrations due to different reasons. December also offered opportunities for reflection on the history and local expression of Christmas in China. From its early roots in Chinese history to modern customs, Christmas has developed unique forms of expression. One beloved example is the “Peace Apple" (Ping An Guo), a tradition born from a Mandarin homonym that has become a gentle way for churches to share the message of peace in Christ.
