Foreword:
Greetings! We are China Christian Daily, the first comprehensive English Christian news website about the church in China. Thank you for your sincere love, prayers, and contributions to the Chinese church.
This November, the World Council of Churches (WCC) convened its executive committee meeting in China—the first time since 2016—hosted by the China Christian Council and National Committee of Three‑Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Church in China (CCC&TSPM). The six-day gathering (November 20-25) unfolded under the theme "Christ, Culture, and Context," blending formal business with pilgrimage encounters throughout Hangzhou. Apart from the conference, the delegation also visited Nanjing and Shanghai to meet church leaders, ministry heads, and officials.
In their "Pilgrimage Encounter Message," the WCC praised the Chinese church’s "post-denominational" unity and contextual theology—viewing it as "an invigoratingly radical expression of the ecumenical calling." They commended its integration of faith, social service, environmental concern, and cultural identity.

Its principles are: self-governance, self-support, and self-propagation. First coined in the mid-19th century by various mission theorists, it remains in use today in the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) on the Chinese mainland.
